IPL Treatment Q & A

What is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), also known as IPL Photofacial lasers are used to perform a wide variety of cosmetic procedures to improve the tone and texture of the skin. The procedures are non-surgical, minimally invasive and can treat several different skin conditions. The technique can be used to treat sun damage, melasma, rosacea, broken capillaries, and other pigment conditions leaving your skin blemish free. Call our office for more information about IPL Photofacial lasers.

What can I expect during and after an IPL Photofacial?

After your consultation to evaluate your skin, the Master Esthetician will prepare your skin for treatment. The treatment feels warm with pinpoint heat. After your procedure expect temporary redness and the areas of hyperpigmentation to be slightly darker. In the following days you can see the dark spots appear as "coffee grounds" that are easily covered with makeup. The "coffee grounds" flake off and reveal more even skin tone. Usually a series of 3 to 5 is recommended for optimal results. Once you achieve your goal, you can maintain them with IPL once or twice a year in tandem with daily skin care at home. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions about the IPL treatment process. Our staff is available to answer any questions you may have before you decide on the procedure.

Who is a Good Candidate for an IPL?

Most anyone in good health on the Fitzpatrick scale from I-IV is a good candidate. Higher Fitzpatrick levels can use alternate therapies to achieve similar results. If you have questions about your eligibility for IPL treatment, please call our office or schedule an appointment using our new online booking feature. Our team of Master Estheticians will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for IPL treatment.
